Purpose
To ensure success when implementing configuration updates and synchronisation with Verifone HQ (VHQ), when swapping the Device ID (DID) on Verifone terminals.
Prepare the terminal(s)
Before beginning the swap, check that the:
- terminal is connected to Wi-fi or 4G.
- terminal battery has at least 25% charge.
NOTE: For optimal results it is recommended to keep the terminal charging throughout the process to avoid potential battery-related issues.
'Reset Wizard' cycle
NOTE: Terminal configuration details TID (terminal identification) are shared during Wpay onboarding. If configuring for a broken device enter the TID for a broken device.
The 'Reset Wizard' (see the table below) will automatically step through the process to swap terminals. During the process, basic, Android configurations are deleted, including Wi-fi settings, language preferences, and these must be re-entered.
- Once the 'Reset Wizard' cycle is complete, the terminal will reset and reboot.
- It will prompt to enter new configuration details. Be sure to have them on hand before you start to reset the terminal.
- Enter the new details (see steps 9 and 10 for details).
TID details
Check the 'Terminal Identification (TID) Version', in the Verifone HeadQuarters (VHQ) terminal. The new TID must have the same 'Reference Set' or a sequentially higher version than the current one (the terminal will not allow version downgrades).
- Example: existing details - SA001701
- New configuration details - SA001702
The device will accept the new Device ID (DID) number and synchronise with VHQ. If there is an error it will show on the terminal. If there is an error message, clear the screen and reenter the DID.
Software and Configuration Download
Once the replacement terminal is synched with the VHQ, the device will automatically download the necessary software and configuration.
Instructions for swapping a device DID
Pre-requisite (Be sure to have the Admin Passcode)
- Go to 'Device Manager'.
- Select 'Host Param Options'.
- Enter the 'Admin Passcode'.
- Click on 'CLEAR ENTITYID AND POIUID'.
- Restart the terminal.
6. Go to device manager and select 'Reset setup wizard'
NOTE: Admin passcode is required. This is supplied by Verifone.
7. On setup wizard screen, scroll the screen upwards to reveal the options.
8. Tick all three of the boxes.
- 'Reset DID'.
- 'Request Key exchange'.
'Reset Deployment' options.
9. Press the green text in the middle of the screen.
Terminal automatically reconfigures.
10. Once the reset is complete, the terminal will restart.
11. Select the language from the drop down menu, if 'English (Australian)' is not displayed.
12. Select the appropriate Wi-fi provider.
13. Enter Wi-fi password.
14. Confirm network is working.
If it is not working, select an alternate network or hotspot to a phone.
15. Enter the 'Device ID' when prompted.
16. Click 'Submit'.
17. Enter 'Device ID' (1013 + TID).
18. Tap 'Submit'.
NOTES: TID (terminal identification number) must be known to Wpay and onboarded in the VHQ System. Device ID won’t configure and sync until it is created in VHQ.
19. While the configuration is completing, wait until the device synchs with VHQ.
NOTE: Do not interrupt this process. It may take some time.
The terminal automatically checks for any additional updates from VHQ.
During this time, the screen may continue displaying 'Checking for updates %' for an extended period.
This typically happens if there are no additional device updates.
20. If more than 30 minutes has passed, exit the screen by tapping the four corners of the screen in the order of the numbers shown here.
After the software has updated, the terminal will install the updates.
21. Wait until this is complete.
Once the updates are installed, the terminal will prompt to reset a new passcode.
This requires an Admin passcode provided by Verifone.
22. Enter the Verifone Admin passcode.
NOTE: If unable to access the VHQ, contact the Wpay support desk.
Once the process is complete and the passcode accepted, the terminal will display 'Complete'.
23. Click 'OK' and the device is ready for use
