Purpose
This guide contains basic support information for V660-P Android payment terminals, including terminal features, how to set up, use and benefit from the terminal functions.

Getting started
Contents of each Verifone V660-P payment terminal:
- Full-feature terminal base.
- Terminal base power pack.
- USB type-C cable.
- Ethernet cable.
- Paper receipt roll.
Power-on the terminal base
NOTE: The terminal comes fully charged and ready to use. Press and hold the power button to turn it on.
If the Verifone V660-P has a base, set the base up first:
- Plug the connection cable to the terminal base.
- Plug the cable into a wall socket.
- Place the terminal on the base to keep it charged.
Charge the terminal
To charge using a charging base
- Plug the power cable into the port on the side of the charging base.
- Plug the power cable into a wall socket.
- Place the terminal on the charging base.
- Check the small icon (looks like an upside down battery) on the ‘Notification bar’ to see if the terminal is charging.
To charge using a USB-C cable
- Insert USB cable into the USB adapter.
- Insert USB adapter into a wall socket.
- Insert USB-C end of the charging cable into the USB-C charging port on the terminal.
- Check the small icon (looks like an upside down battery) on the ’Notification bar’ to see if the terminal is charging.
To charge using another device
The terminal can also be charged by plugging the USB cable into another device, such as a laptop or desktop computer. Be aware charging this way takes significantly longer than when charging on the base or using a
USB-C cable.
Monitor the battery level
The battery level can be monitored on the navigation bar.
When the battery charge level reaches:
- 25 percent- Minimum battery level for software updates to be installed
- 15 percent- an alert is displayed to charge the terminal.
- 5 percent - printing receipts is automatically disabled.
- 0 percent - the terminal will automatically power off.
NOTE: Once the base is connected to a wall socket or charging base, the terminal may take a few minutes before it powers back on.
Power-off or restart terminal
To power off or restart the terminal, first remove it from the base. Press and hold the power button for 1 second, then tap ‘Power off’ or ‘Restart’.
Connect the terminal to process transactions
There are three ways to connect a terminal (see below) to process transactions:
- SIM card (via mobile data).
- Ethernet connection with a V660P.
- Wi-Fi.
Setup terminal base
To set up the terminal base to process transactions, the base must be connected to a wall socket and be able to communicate with a local area network (LAN).
To do this:
- Insert the power cable (provided), into the charging port on the left side of the base.
- Plug the power supply into a wall socket.
- Connect Ethernet cable to the base.
- Plug one end of the Ethernet cable (provided), into the power port that looks like this
on the base.
- Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into a free LAN port on your router.
NOTES:
- The terminal connects to the base via Bluetooth. If the terminal is configured correctly, once the base is connected to the Wi-fi router, the cardholder can make a payment on the terminal when it is off the base.
- Refer to the Base Pairing Guide for more instructions on how to pair the base.
Insert/ change a paper roll
- Open the paper roll cover door.
- Remove the used paper receipt roll.
- Insert a new receipt roll.
- Check that the receipt paper feeds from the top.
- Leave a length of receipt paper sticking out of the terminal.
- Close the printer roll cover door by pressing down gently until it clicks shut.
- Run a sample transaction to test that the paper is installed correctly.
NOTE: There are small slots located on each side of the paper receipt roll cover. The easiest way to open the paper roll compartment is to put a thumbnail in one of the slots and push/ flick the slot to open the cover.
Terminal screen navigation
The terminal has a touchscreen that responds by tapping and swiping (like an Android smartphone):
- Tap – Lightly touch an item to select or launch it.
- Swipe – Lightly drag your finger across the screen to swipe. For example, swipe down from the ‘Notification bar’ at the top of the screen to access the ‘Quick Settings’ panel.
- Touch and hold – Touch and hold items to see more information or open a pop-up menu of options.
- Drag and drop – Touch and hold an item, and then move it to a new location.

Press the navigation keys at the bottom of the terminal to quickly move through notifications.

The ’notification bar’ at the top of the screen, displays status and notification icons to check key functions of the terminal.

Notification icons push warnings, important information and notifications of pending updates. Swipe down from the top of the screen to see ‘notification icons’.
Quick settings panel
Access to the Quick Settings panel can be made from most screens. Swipe down from the ‘Notification bar’ for quick access to notification cards, settings and more.

NOTE: Some available Android, quick setting icons may not work on a specific EFTPOS terminal.
Notification cards
On the ‘Quick Settings’ panel, swipe down the list of notification cards to see more details about a specific notification.
Power management options
To check the estimated charge left in the battery:
1. Swipe down from the Notification bar.
2. Tap the settings icon (looks like a spiky wheel) and tap 'Battery'.
Additional options for power management:
- Battery percentage - Toggle battery percentage display on and off in the 'Notification bar'.
- Adaptive brightness - Toggle this setting on to automatically optimise brightness level for available light.
- Screen timeout - Adjust the time before the terminal enters sleep mode when idle.
- Ambient display - Toggle this setting on to wake the screen when you receive new notifications.
Lock and unlock a terminal
To save power, the terminal enters sleep mode when not in use and will lock the terminal after a set time of inactivity.
- To wake the terminal - press the power button.
- To unlock the terminal - press the power button and swipe up on the screen (depending on the configuration, it may be necessary to reenter the unlock passcode).
NOTE: To adjust the delay time before a terminal enters sleep mode, navigate to:
- Android Settings.
- Click 'Display'.
- Click 'Sleep timeout'.
- Select the time delay amount.
Set up passcodes
For security, the refund functionality on a terminal is protected by passcodes. The recommendation is to set the passcodes up when first setting up a terminal. This is to ensure the terminal can process a refund when needed. You can also choose to apply passcode access to other functions, including settlements.
Change passcodes
To change passcodes be in the ‘Payment Screen’:
- Tap the 'hamburger menu' (top left corner of the terminal screen).
- Tap ‘Settings’.
- Tap ‘Security’.
- Tap ‘Passcode Management’.
- Select the passcode to change.
- Enter the current manager passcode to continue (must have Admin or Daily password if setting the passcode for the first time).
- Key in the new passcode.
- Re-enter the new passcode to confirm.
- Click ‘OK’.

Authenticate changes in the 'Authenticate to Continue screen and click 'Enter'.
Internet and network connection
Wi-fi network
- Swipe down from the ‘Notification bar’ at the top of the screen.
- Tap and hold the Wi-fi icon.
- Select the correct network from the available networks list.
- Enter the Wi-fi password.
- Tap 'CONNECT'.

Connect using mobile data
If the terminal connects by mobile data, the terminal is delivered with a SIM card already installed. The device will automatically connect to data when it is turned on.
Connect using mobile hotspot
The merchant can choose to use their mobile phone to establish Wi-Fi connectivity for the terminal by creating a mobile hotspot. It will use the merchant's data plan to create a Wi-Fi network that can be used by other devices.
For example, you can enable a mobile hotspot from your mobile phone and connect your terminal to the hotspot to process transactions.
- On the phone, turn the mobile hotspot on.
- On the terminal, swipe down from the ‘notification bar’ at the top of the screen.
- Tap and hold the Wi-fi icon.
- Select the hotspot network from the available network list.
- Enter the mobile hotspot password.
- Tap CONNECT.
NOTE: It is not recommended to transact long-term over a hotspot because periodic terminal software updates can be 500mb or more and result in high data charges on the mobile phone.
Aeroplane mode
Although, aeroplane mode is meant to turn off all connections to a mobile phone (including mobile data, Wi-fi, and Bluetooth), the Wi-fi and/ or Bluetooth can be turned back on for the terminal to use:
- Go to the Quick Settings panel.
- Tap ‘Aeroplane mode’.
- Tap the Quick Setting Icon:
on the 'Quick Setting' menu.
- Turn aeroplane mode off or on.
(Or navigate to ‘Settings’ > ‘Network and Internet’, scroll down to toggle Aeroplane mode on or off.)
NOTE: It is not recommended to use the terminal in Aeroplane mode because it disrupts payments.
Payments
Purchases
To process a purchase transaction:
- Enter the transaction amount.
- Tap ‘Purchase’.
NOTE: To delete a single number or clear the whole amount entered, tap the backspace key to remove a single number or the ‘Clear’ key to delete the total amount entered.
- The cardholder presents a card or device and enters a PIN (if required).
NOTE: The graphic on the terminal screen indicates where and how to present their card:
- Tap - for contactless cards or wallets - cardholder taps the card on the contactless device symbol on the printer roll cover.
- Insert (cards with chips) – cardholder inserts a card with a chip into the slot at the bottom of the terminal. (Card must be inserted with the chip facing up and with the chip inserted first).
- Swipe (magnetic strip cards) – The cardholder swipes their card through the magstripe reader on the side of the terminal.
5. Select account type and enter a PIN, if applicable.
6. Terminal processes the transaction and then displays ‘Approved’ or ‘Declined’.
NOTE: After a card is inserted, the terminal prompts the cardholder to remove the card from the chip card slot.
8. Once the transaction is completed the terminal prints the merchant receipt.
Receipt prompts for cardholder receipt options:
- ‘PRINT’ - to print the cardholder receipt.
- ‘NO THANKS’ - to continue back to the payment screen.
Manual PIN pad purchase amount, card option instructions and authorising a purchase
‘Purchase + Cash Out’
To process a purchase transaction with cash out:
- Enter the purchase amount.
- Tap ‘Other’.
- Tap ‘Purchase + Cash Out’.
- Select the cash-out amount from the list or tap ‘Other’ to enter a specific amount.
NOTE: If you select ‘No Cash-Out’, the transaction will proceed with no cash-out amount added.
- Total transaction amount is displayed on-screen.
- The cardholder presents their card and enters their PIN.
NOTE: The graphic on-screen shows cardholders how to present their card.
- Cardholder taps their contactless device or card (Apple Pay, Google Pay, contactless cards) on the contactless symbol on the printer roll cover,, inserts their chip card into the slot at the bottom of the terminal, or swipes the magstripe on their card through the magstripe reader on the side of the terminal.
NOTE: For Cash-Out transactions, the magstripe method is only available in NZ.
- Terminal processes the transaction and then displays ‘Approved’ or ‘Declined’.
- If a card was inserted, the terminal prompts the cardholder to remove the card from the chip card slot.
- cardholder selects preferred receipt option.
- ‘Purchase + Cash-Out’ summary screen is displayed.
- Tap ‘DONE’ to continue back to the ‘Payment’ screen.
- Present approved cash-out amount to the cardholder.
To process cash out
- Enter the cash out amount.
- Tap ‘Other’.
- Tap ‘Cash Out Only’.
- Cash-out amount is displayed on-screen.
- Cardholder presents a card and enters a PIN.
- The graphic on screen shows cardholders how to present their card.
NOTE: For Cash-Out transactions, magstripe method is available only in NZ.
- Terminal processes the transaction and then displays Approved or Declined.
- If a card is inserted, the terminal prompts to remove the card from the chip card slot.
- cardholder selects preferred receipt option.
- Cash Out summary screen is displayed. Tap DONE to continue back to the Payment screen.
- Present approved cash-out amount to the cardholder.

Purchase submitted, authorised, approved and receipting
‘Purchase + Tip’
Tipping offers the cardholder the option to add a tip to the purchase. To offer tipping this option must be turned on in the Terminal Management System (TMS) first.
To process a transaction with a tip added:
- Initiate a transaction by entering the transaction amount.
NOTE: Tap the backspace key to delete a single number, or the ‘Clear’ key to clear the whole amount entered.
- Tap the ‘Purchase’ button.
- Terminal prompts to select tip amount.
NOTE: Cardholder can select a predefined amount, enter a custom amount or opt not to add a tip.
- Terminal will prompt to present card (graphic on screen shows cardholder how to present the card).
- Contactless - present the card or device on the contactless symbol on the printer roll cover.
- Card with chip - insert chip card into the slot at the bottom of the terminal (chip up and in first).
- Swipe - swipe the magstripe on the card through the magstripe reader on the side of the terminal.
- Select account type and enter PIN if applicable.
- Terminal process transaction and then advises if transaction has been approved or declined.
- If a card is inserted, the terminal prompts the cardholder to remove the card from the chip card slot.
- Prints merchant receipt.
- Prompts for cardholder receipt option.
Purchase with tip options, total and card presentation instructions

MOTO (mail-order, telephone order)
To process MOTO, the cardholder does not need to be in the store to make a payment. Process the card-not-present ‘MOTO’ transaction on the terminal.
To do this, there must be a card-not-present facility with the bank that provides a merchant facility and a manager or cashier passcode (if applicable).
- Enter the transaction amount.
- Tap ‘Other’.
- Tap ‘Manual Card Entry’.
- Tap ‘Mail Order or Phone Order’.
- Enter the card number.
- Tap ‘Enter’.
- Tap ‘Confirm’.
NOTE: For cardholder security, the terminal will not display the full card number on screen while it is being typed in.
- Enter the card expiration date in the format MM/YY.
- Terminal processes the transaction and displays ‘Approved’ or ‘Declined’.

Select ‘PRINT’ to print cardholder receipt, or ‘NO THANKS’ to continue back to the payment screen.

Refund
To process a refund:
- Enter the refund amount into the keypad on the payment screen.
- Tap ‘Other’.
- Tap ‘Refund’.
- Enter a passcode.
- Refund amount is displayed on the screen.
- Cardholder presents card or device and enters a PIN (if required).
- Terminal processes the refund and then displays ‘Approved’ or ‘Declined’.
NOTES - The terminal may prompt for signature. If a card is inserted, the terminal prompts to remove the card from the chip card slot.
- Merchant receipt prints.
- Cardholder selects preferred receipt option.

Surcharging
When surcharging is enabled on the terminal, the terminal automatically detects when the transaction is a 'Scheme transaction' and applies a surcharge. If the terminal has contactless surcharging enabled, contactless transactions also incur a surcharge.
Note: If surcharge is enabled on the terminal, the card presentation screen will display a note that says, "Surcharge may apply" for all your surcharge enabled transactions.
To process a purchase transaction with a surcharge added:
- Enter the transaction amount.
- Tap ‘Purchase’.
The purchase amount is displayed on the screen along with the note ‘Surcharge may apply’ and Surcharge (i) button beside the cancel button on the card presentation screen.
When the Surcharge button is clicked, a preview of applicable surcharges per product are displayed. NOTE: currently disabled.
- Cardholder is prompted to confirm the surcharge amount.
- Cardholder enter their pin, if required.
- Terminal processes the transaction.
On the ‘Authorising screen’ the Total amount, with the surcharge is displayed. Terminal then displays ‘Approved’ or ‘Declined’.
If a card is inserted, the terminal prompts the cardholder to remove the card from the chip card slot.
- Merchant receipt prints.
- Cardholder selects preferred receipt option.

Authorising payment with surcharge, approving, printing receipt options
Pre-authorisation (Pre-Auth)
Pre-Auth provides a mechanism for merchants to authorise future, multiple debiting of a cardholder account/ card. This feature is primarily used in hospitality or other reservation environments.
Pre-authorisation transactions can only be performed on scheme credit and debit cards only where the merchant has been authorised to do so.
To process Pre-Auth transactions.
- Enter the transaction amount.
- Tap ‘Other’.
- Select ‘Pre-Authorisation’.
- Cardholder presents card and enters a PIN, if applicable.
- Merchant receipt prints.
- Cardholder selects preferred receipt option.
Pre-Auth transactions are accessible in the Order History screen.

Pre-authorisation completion
‘Completion’ is used to close an earlier, pre-authorisation series of transactions and charge the cardholder with the final/ total transaction amount.
To process ‘Completion’ with same amount for each transaction:
- Click ‘Menu icon’.
- Click ‘Order History’.
- Under ‘Pre-Auths’ Tab, select the ‘Pre-Auths’ transaction that are to be included in the total.
- Click ‘Complete’ button in ‘Transaction Details’ screen.
- Select ‘Same Amount’ or ‘New Amount’ (Max variance is 10%).
- Once transactions have been processed, cardholder selects preferred receipt option for a receipt.
- After Pre-Auths’ operation is complete, the ‘Order detail’ screen is shown with only a ‘Receipt option’.
‘Store And Forward’ (SAF)
When a transaction is approved offline, it is added to the ‘SAF queue’ to be sent to the host sometime in the future.
NOTE: This option must be specifically requested. Contact Wpay Support (there's a link at the bottom of this page) or your account manager for it to be enabled.
When offline transactions are pending, or there is an error in uploading reversals or offline transactions, offline notifications are shown in the Android notification drawer.
All pending, offline transactions are grouped under 3 notification groups
Sample notifications
Diagnostic
There is a SAF diagnostic menu available where the current status and force-push pending transactions waiting in the queue are visible. To review them:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the launcher menu.
- Go to ‘Diagnostics’.
- Select ‘SAF Diagnostics’.
- Tab ‘Upload Offline Transactions’.
Settlement
The terminal automatically settles transactions at a gateway settlement cutover time each day.
Manual settlement options have been disabled.
Settlement enquiry
The ‘Settlement Enquiry’ report shows:
- Start and end date of settlement.
- Transactions by card type.
- Totals by card type.
- Current settlement total (purchases less refunds).
To access your ‘Settlement Enquiry’ report:
Be in the ‘Payment screen’:
- Tap the hamburger menu (in the top left corner of the terminal screen).
- Tap ‘Reports’.
- Tap ‘Settlement Enquiry’.
- Swipe up to scroll through the report on screen.
Settlement history
View detailed, daily settlement reports for any of the last 14 days. A ‘Settlement History report’ shows:
- Start and end date of settlement.
- Transaction types by card type.
- Your settlement total (purchases less refunds).
To access a ‘Settlement History report’:
Be in the ‘Payment screen’:
- Tap the hamburger menu (in the top left corner of the terminal screen).
- Tap ‘Reports’.
- Tap ‘Settlement History’.
Reports are listed by settlement date.
- Tap the settlement date to view a specific report.
- Swipe up to scroll through the report on screen.

Access the main menu by:
- Tapping the hamburger icon.
- Tap the hamburger menu (in the top left corner of the terminal screen).
- Select ‘Check for Updates’.
